Private Reginald Robert Burton

Battalion: 1/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Derby and lived at 4 Handle Street, Osmaston, Derby. Son of Joseph and Mary A. Burton, of “Sunny Lea”, Osmaston Park Road, Derby. He was a smith prior to enlisting 30th April 1915 at Derby. He went to France on 6th March 1916 he suffered an accidental bayonet wound when another soldier mistook him for a rat, 5th May 1916. He was treated at 32 Casualty Clearing Station St. Venant, France, and was transferred to No. 6 General Hospital Rouen, 8th May 1916. He rejoined his battalion, 10th June 1916 and suffered from trench fever on 30th September 1916. He was treated at 13th Stationary Hospital Boulogne, France and evacuated to England on Hospital Ship St. Patrick 5th October 1916.  He returned to France on 2nd March 1917 and was killed in action on 6th November 1918, aged 21, whilst following up after an attack on the German lines at Cartignes, France.
