Born and lived at Winster, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Agnes Burton, of Bank Top, Winster, Derbyshire. He was a painter prior to enlisting at Bakewell, Derbyshire. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 31, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
