Born and lived in Nottingham. Son of James and Eliza Burton, of 3, Archer Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He was a toymaker prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He was killed in action, 25th August 1917, aged 20, in the attack on the Knoll at L’Empire, France.
