Born at Barrowby, Lincolnshire. Son of Tom and Jane Elizabeth Burton, of 121 Pear Tree Street, Derby. He was a butcher prior to enlisting on 11th December 1915 at Derby. He was appointed Lance Corporal on 17th February 1917 and went to France on 26th February 1917. He was promoted to Corporal on 9th April 1917 and appointed Lance Sergeant on 26th September 1917. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
