Born and lived at Nottingham. Son of John and Harriet Burke, of 26, Foundry Yard, Leen Side, Nottingham. He was a leather dresser prior to enlisting 20th July 1915 at Newark, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 30th July 1916 and was accidentally killed whilst digging and his shovel hit an explosive at Longueval, France, 8th August 1916, aged 20.
