Battalion : 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Old Swan. Liverpool. Son of John and Margeret Burke, of Waterloo Street, Liverpool. Husband of Emily Burke, of 33 Annesley Street, Liverpool. He was a labourer prior to enlisting on 15th September 1902 at Liverpool. He went to France 10th October 1914 and suffered from trench foot and sceptic heels. He was transferred to 13 general hospital Boulogne, 6th December 1914 and to England on Hospital Ship St. David. He returned to France on 18th March 1916 and was killed in action during the attack on Rouge De Bout, France, on 9th May 1915 during the Second Battle of Artois.
