Born at Birmingham and lived at Wednesfield, Staffordshire. Son of William and Florence May Burgess, of 64, Neachall Lane, Wednesfield. He enlisted at Bilston, Staffordshire and was killed in action, 1st October 1918, aged 19, in the attack at Vlamertinghe, Belgium.

Buried: Zantvoorde British Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 2, Row B, Grave 15.
