Lance Corporal Harry Burgess

Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born at Hough, Cheshire, 29th August 1884. Son of Joseph and Sarah Marie Burgess, of Marlow Street, Fairfield, Buxton; Husband of Hannah Burgess, of 103, Green Lane, Burbage, Buxton. He was an engine cleaner prior to enlisting on 19th February 1904 at Sheffield.  He served in Singapore from 4th November 1905 to 29th January 1907. He went to France on 10th October 1914 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 20th May 1915.  He was killed in action, 9th August 1915, age 30, in the attack on the German positions at Sanctuary Wood, Belgium.
