Born and lived at  Upminster, Essex. Son of John Burgess, of Post Office Row, Upminster, Essex. He enlisted at Romford, Essex and was killed in action, 20th October 1918, age 20, at Sweveghem, Belgium. 

Commemorated : Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.
