Second Lieutenant Geoffrey Eric Burdekin

Battalion: 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Sheffield, 29th March 1893. Son of Benjamin Thomas and Emily Jane Burdekin, of Hopefield, Somerton, Somerset. He was educated at Bramcote, Scarbrough, Rugby and Woolwich. He was gazetted to the 2nd Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment on 20th September 1911 and served in India for 2 years. In 1913, he resigned his commission due to ill health and was articled to his father as a solicitor. On the outbreak of war, he applied for a commission with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and went to France on 11th November 1914. He was attached to the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment and was killed in action, 26th January 1915, aged 22, at Beuvry, France.
