Battalion : 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
Born at Allencliffe, Sheffield, Yorkshire and lived at Clowne, Derbyshire. Husband of Rebecca Gregory (formerly Bunting), of 14, The Green, Clowne, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 22nd August 1914 at Clay Cross, Derbyshire. He went to France 11th November 1914 with the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He suffered a fractured left leg, 7th June 1915, and was treated at No. 8 General Hospital Rouen, France. Was posted to the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 28th August 1915 and went to Gallipoli. He went to France, 13th July 1916 and was attached to the 13th Battalion Royal Irish Rifles. He was accidentally killed, 20th August 1916, aged 26, in a trench when a Lewis Gun that was being fired above the fire step of the trench, fell into the trench.
