Son of Alfred William and Mary Ann  Bumstead, of 43, All Saints Street, Hastings, Sussex. He enlisted at Hastings and was later transferred to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was killed in action, 26th September 1917, age 18, in the attack near Wieltje, Belgium.
