Battalion: 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.
He was born in Longford, Derbyshire. Son of Elizabeth Penson of Simon Fields Farm West Hallam, Derbyshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting on 12th January 1903 He served in Hong Kong, from 8th March 1904 to 6th December 1904. He went to France on 24th September 1914 and was killed in action on 20th October 1914, when the battalion held position south-east of Bois Grenier, Ennetieres/Escobecques, France against a German attack.
