Battalion: 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment.

Born and lived at Dronfield, Derbyshire. Son of John William Brunton, of “The Moorlands”, Dronfield. He was a draughtsman prior to enlisting on 24th June 1914 at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He served in Gallipoli with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment from the 1st July 1915 until the 2nd January 1916. He went to France on 17th May 1916 and was posted to the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, aged 25, during the attack on the German positions at Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
