British War and Victory MedalBorn at Grantham, Lincolnshire. Son of Robert and Sarah Jane Bruce, of 14, City Road, Beeston, Nottingham. He was a carter prior to enlisting 16th October 1917 at Ilkeston, Derbyshire into the 51st Training Battalion.  He went to France on 8th April 1918, with the 15th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was posted to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 11th April 1918. He was killed in action, 19th April 1918, age 18, whilst serving in the line near Mesnil, France.
