He lived at 70 Pembroke Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of Frank and Mary Brownley. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield. He died, 7th September 1916,  at 4 Casualty Clearing Station, Beauval, France.
