Born in Central Province, India. Husband of Edith Mary Browne, of 16, Vincent Crescent, Brampton, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a mechanic prior to enlisting on 15th November 1915 at Chesterfield. He was posted to the 11th  Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 3rd October 1917 and was killed in action, on 18th October 1917, age 26, whilst serving in the line near Zillebeke, near Ypres, Belgium.
