Second Lieutenant Arthur George Browne

Born at Mount Abu, India. Son of John Barret (Royal Dublin Fusiliers) and Isabella Helen Brown. Educated at Laurence Military Asylum, Sanwar, India. He enlisted on 2nd September 1903 aged 14 and served in the Band of the 1st Gloucestershire Regiment for 8 years. He went to France on 15th August 1914. He was commissioned on 1st October 1914 and was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. Killed in action on 20th October 1914, when the battalion held position south-east of Bois Grenier, Ennetieres/Escobecques, France against a German attack.
