Born at Woodborough, Nottinghamshire. Son of William and Charlotte Brown, of Sansom Wood Cottages, Calverton, Nottinghamshire. He was a farm labourer prior to enlisting at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. He was killed in action, 10th October 1917, whilst serving in the line  Hazebrouck, Belgium.
