Son of William and Ellen Brown, of 86, Portland Street, Whitwell, Derbyshire. He was an apprentice printer prior to enlisting. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 16th November 1914 and was killed in action, 7th August 1915, aged 22, whilst serving in Gallipoli, Turkey.
