Born at Clay Cross, Derbyshire and lived at Pinxton, Derbyshire. Son of Charles and Mary Jane Brooks, of 77, Park Lane, Pinxton, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Ripley. He was killed in action, 1st October 1916, age 28, in the attack on the Flers/Le Sars line, France during the Battle of the Somme.
