Born and lived at Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Mary Elizabeth Brooks, of Main Street, Middleton-by-Wirksworth, Derbyshire. He was a limestone quarryman prior to enlisting at Derby. He went to France on 29th August 1915 and was killed in action, on 17th June 1916 aged 26, by German gas shelling of the trenches near Neuve-Eglise, Belgium.
