Born at Walton, Staffordshire and lived at Crowle, Worcestershire. Husband of Elise Bromley, of 4 Westwood Road, Woolstanton, Staffordshire.  He was a grocer’s assistant prior to enlisting, on 11th December 1915 into the North Staffordshire Regiment, at Woolstanton.  He was transferred to the 10th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, on 17th June 1916 and went to France on 6th October 1916. He was transferred to the 12th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, on 18th October 1916. He was admitted to 22 General Hospital Dannes Cammieres, on 11th December 1916 suffering from trench fever. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Cambria on 20th December 1916. He returned to France on 20th June 1917  and was posted to the 9th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment on the 7th July 1917. He was admitted to the 59 General Hospital St. Omer, France, on 23rd July 1917 suffering from a duodenal ulcer. He was transferred to England on Hospital Ship Kalyan, on 29th July 1917. He returned to France on 12th December 1917 and was posted to the 2/6th Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. He was admitted to the 8th Canadian Stationary Hospital and Dannes Cammieres suffering from appendicitis, on 2nd February 1918. He was transferred to the 7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters, on 30th March 1918 and was posted to the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 17th June 1918. He was killed in action, on 7th October 1918, in the attack on the German positions near Oppy France.
