Born at Darley, Derbyshire. Son of Caroline Elizabeth Brocklehurst, of Poole Dorset. He was a miller at Wheatsheaf Farm, Matlock, Derbyshire prior to enlisting 17th October 1914 at Matlock. He went to France 28th June 1915 and was killed in action, 24th November 1915, whilst serving in the trenches at La Coutre, France.
