Born at Chesterfield, Derbyshire and lived at Mansfield-Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire. Husband of Mary Brocklehurst, of 17 Fletcher Street, Mansfield-Woodhouse. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 22nd October 1914 at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 18th March 1915. with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He contracted Bronchitis and was returned to England 25th March 1915. He returned to France 3rd February 1916 and joined the 11th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 11th April 1916. He was killed in action, 6th May 1916, aged 45, whilst serving in the line near Dernancourt, France.
