Lance Corporal Willie Britton

Born and lived at Nottingham. Son of John and Ellen Britton, of 5, Lambert Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. He was a colliery rope lad prior to enlisting at Nottingham. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was transferred to the 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 16th September 1916, aged 21, in the attack on the German positions at Guillemont, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
