Born 11th March 1887 at Nottingham. Son of Sir Joseph and Lady Francis Ellen Bright. He was educated at Nottingham High School, Repton School and Nottingham University. He was a mechanical engineer for the Imperial Tobacco Company Limited (Messrs John Player and Sons, Nottingham). He was also a Sunday School teacher at Derby Road Baptist Church, Nottingham. He was gazetted Second Lieutenant Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was posted to the 2/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 4th March 1915. He went to France 22nd August 1915, joining the 1/7th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, 30th August 1915. He was killed in action, 13th October 1915, aged 28, at the Hohenzollern Redoubt, whilst attempting to save Sergeant Major Benson.
