Born at Newbold, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Henry and Harriet Briggs, of 7, Railway View, Locksford Lane, Brimington, Chesterfield. He was a wagon driller prior to enlisting at Derby. He was Killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 20, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
