Born and lived at 9, Rancliffe Street, Nottingham. Son of John and Adelaide Brett, of 6 Goodhall Yard, Nottingham. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting 18th May 1914 at Nottingham. He went to France 11th November 1914 and was killed in action, 15th September 1916, in the attack on the German positions at Guillemont, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
