Born at Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. Lived at Stanhope Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. He enlisted at Nottingham and went to France 28th November 1914 with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 8th August 1916, aged 19, during the attack on the German positions at Delville Wood, France, during the Battle of the Somme.
