Born at Staveley Derbyshire and lived at Shirebrook, Derbyshire. Son of Ely Thomas and Bertha Breakwell, of 35 Vernon Street, Shirebrook. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 9th June 1915 at Mansfield. He went to France on 6th March 1916 and died of wounds, on 22nd May 1916.
