Born and lived at Somersall, Derbyshire. Son of Thomas and Betsy Brassington, of 49 Somersall, Derbyshire. He was a motor car cleaner prior to enlisting at Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire. He went to France on 27th August 1915 and was killed in action, 1st October 1916. in the attack on the Flers/Le Sars line during the Battle of the Somme.

He was one of five brothers, all of whom served.
