Son of Henry and Martha Brandreth, of Highfield View, Nottingham Road, Belper, Derby. He was a grocer’s warehouseman prior to enlisting. Went to France on 4th September 1916 and was commissioned as Second Lieutenant on 30th October 1917.  He joined the 2/5th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 24, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
