Born at Mansfield Woodhouse, Nottinghamshire and lived at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Son of John and Mary Bramwell, of Mansfield Woodhouse. He enlisted at Mansfield and went to France on 11th October 1915. He was killed in action, on 1st July 1916, during the attack on the German positions near Ovillers, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
