British 15 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn at Banbury, Oxfordshire. and lived at Tollerton, Nottinghamshire. Son of John and Sarah Brain, of Kirtlington, Oxfordshire. Husband of Sarah Jane Brain, of Tollerton. He was a gardener prior to enlisting at Newark, Nottinghamshire. He served in Gallipoli during 1915 with the 9th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was later transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 22nd March 1918, during the German spring offensive near Hermies, France.
