Son of Thomas William and Sophia Boyden, of 17, Stibbington Street, Euston, London. Husband of Catherine Mary Boyden, of 12 Sidney Street, Euston. He was a greengrocer prior to enlisting on 11th December 1915. He went to France on 26th February 1917 and was admitted to 38 Casualty Clearing Station, Heilly, France, on 22nd April 1917 suffering from bacterial dysentery. He was transported to No. 2 General Hospital, Le Havre, France, on 30th April 1917, and transferred to England on Hospital Ship Essequibo, 1st May 1917. He returned to France on 21st December 1917, joining the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was killed in action,  26th March 1918, aged 28, whilst the battalion was withdrawing under heavy fire towards Rosieres, France.
