Born at Crich, Derbyshire, 5th May 1895. Son of John and Mary Ann Bowmer, of “White House”, Crich.  He went to France 14th November 1915. He was commissioned  Second Lieutenant 4th August 1916 and joined the 16th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment 12th September 1916 in France. He was wounded 5th January 1917 at Ypres and promoted Lieutenant 5th February 1918. Awarded the M.C (Military Cross) for gallantry in action on 13th November 1916 in the attack on St. Pierre Division, France during the Battle of the Somme. He died 9th October 1919.

Buried : Crich (St. Mary) Churchyard, Derbyshire. South of West end of Church.
