Born and lived at Huthwaite, Nottinghamshire. Son of James and Eliza Bowler, of 105, Main Street, Huthwaite. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 5th August 1917, age 26, during a raid on the German trenches at Philosophe, France.
