Corporal Joseph Bowler

British 1914 Star, British War and Victory MedalBorn 18th December 1876 at Kegworth, Leicestershire. Son of James and Jane Mary North, of Mount Pleasant, Kegworth.  Husband of Ellen Bowler, of Kegworth. He was a labourer prior to enlisting 13th April 1898. He served in Malta, from 21st September 1898 to 22nd February 1899, Cyprus 23rd February 1899 to 23rd April 1901. He was appointed Lance Corporal, 22nd December 1900 and promoted Corporal 14th March 1902. He served in South Africa, 24th April 1901 till 7th December 1902 and Hong Kong, 8th September 1902 until 1st December 1904 and Strait Settlements, 2nd December 1904 until 12th April 1910. He was discharged at the termination of his first period of engagement and re-enlisted 213th September 1910 at Derby. He went to France 11th November 1914 and suffered shrapnel wounds to his buttocks whilst in the line at Richebourg, France, 31st January 1915. He was transferred to England and died of these wounds, 12th May 1915, aged 38,  at Wilderness Hospital, Seal, Kent.
