Born and lived in South Wingfield, Derbyshire. Son of Walter and Matilda Bowler, of Wessington Lane, South Wingfield. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Ripley, Derbyshire. He went to France on 28th August 1915 and died of wounds, on 31st October 1917, aged 23, at Tooting Military Hospital, London.
