Born and lived at Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire. Adopted son of Enoch and Susan Bowen, of 1 Pond Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. He enlisted at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire and was killed in action, 31st July 1917, during the attack at Bellewaarde, near Ypres, Belgium.
