Born and lived at Hayfield, Derbyshire. Son of Albert Ernest and Helen Bowden, of Sett Bank, Hayfield, Derbyshire. He was employed at a calico print works prior to enlisting at Buxton, Derbyshire. He died of wounds, 2nd August 1917, aged 21.

Buried : Gwalia Cemetery, Belgium. Plot 1. Row G. Grave 27.
