Born at Gateshead, County Durham. Son of Robert and Elizabeth Boutland, of 19, Tyndal Gardens, Dunston-On-Tyne, County Durham. He lived at 32 Kelvin Grove, Bensham, Gateshead. Enlisted at Gateshead and was killed in action, 7th April 1917, aged 19, during the attack at Le Verguier, north-west of Saint Quentin, France.
