He was a carter for Nottingham Corporation prior to enlisting 22nd October 1914 at Newark, Nottinghamshire,. He went to France 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action, 27th June 1916, age 27, during the Germans shelling of the line at Foncquevillers, France.
