Born and lived at Derby. Son of George and Sarah Bodell, of 70 Drewery Lane Derby. He was a grocery warehouseman prior to enlisting on 12th December 1915 at Derby. He went to France on 8th August 1916 and suffered shrapnel wounds to his hand, thigh and right knee, on 14th October 1916. He was treated at No. 34 Casualty Clearing Station, at Growve Town (Meaulte), France.  and transferred to No. 5 General Hospital Rouen, on 17th October 1916. He was then transferred to England on Hospital Ship Aberdonain, on 20th October 1916. He returned to France on 3rd July 1917  and was killed in action, on 1st December 1917, in the attack on La Vacquerie, France.
