Born and lived at Sutton-Cum-Lound, Nottinghamshire. Son of Frederick and Helen Boddy of Sutton-Cum-Lound. He was a farm servant prior to enlisting at Retford, Nottinghamshire He went to France on 29th July 1915 and died of wounds on 4th July 1916, aged 21, from wounds received on 1st July 1916 on the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
