Born at Winster, Derbyshire. Son of George and Jane Boam, of Main Street, Winster. Husband of Annie Boam, of 31, Appletree Road, Stanfree, Chesterfield, Derbyshire. He was a call miner at Blackwell Colliery, Derbyshire prior to enlisting 4th August 1915 at Matlock, Derbyshire. He was taken prisoner, 22nd March 1918 and died, 10th October 1918, aged 26, whilst working in a coal mine as a prisoner of war.
