Born at Bury-St. Edmonds, Suffolk. Son of Harry and Alice Blake, of 33, Cornwall Street, Felixstowe, Suffolk. He was a baker prior to enlisting on 19th August 1909 at Bury-St. Edmonds went to France on 8th September 1914, was promoted to Corporal on 21st September 1914 and Sergeant, on 20th October 1914. He was killed in action, on 1st December 1914, by a German sniper whilst in the line near Rue-Du-Bois, France.
