Son of John Thomas Blackett and Annie E. Blackett, of 10, Birtley Street, Leslie Avenue, Maltby, Rotherham. he was a coal miner prior to enlisting on 9th December 1915 at Pontefract, Yorkshire. He was transferred to the 2/6th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment, on 21st February 1917 and went to France on 8th May 1917. He was killed in action, 21st March 1918, aged 24, whilst holding the line near Noreuil, France on the opening day of the German Spring Offensive or (Kaiserschlact)
