Born at Eckington, Derbyshire and lived at Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Son of Robert William and Mary Elizabeth Blackburn, of 299 Model Village, Creswell, Derbyshire. He was a coal miner prior to enlisting at Worksop, Nottinghamshire.  He was killed in action, 8th October 1918, in the tack at Bohain, France.
